Battle 2020: Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps

Hi Guys,

After a very long break, today we are going to discuss a new (battle) topic, that is,

Battle 2020: Mobile Websites vs Mobile Apps. Which will Triumph?

This is a debate that has been going on for a while but it is still relevant. Everyone has their own opinion about which works better. Both have amazing features but none is near to perfection. Do you just need a website to display properly on your device? Is it possible for you to have a great online experience without the use of apps? Apps do have some benefits though. Having the app logo on your phone reminds you to use it. Sometimes you read something amazing but cannot recall which website you saw it on.  Let’s look at the differences between the two and see who Wins the Battle this time around. Some experts believe apps are taking over while others feel a mobile website is enough.

Does anyone remember what cellphones were like back in the 2000s? Their functionality was so limited. It was like having a smaller version of a landline telephone in your hand. Well, we have come a long way since then. Let’s look at Mobile Websites and Mobile Apps individually.

Mobile Websites

Amazon.in mobile site

The internet has become impossible to ignore in the last few decades. More and more of our web browsing are done on our mobile phones. When mobile websites first made it on the scene, everyone appreciated the convenience that it created. Today’s generation does not always spend their days in front of the computer screen but our mobile phones are always at an arm’s reach.  Remember how browsing the internet had you sliding your screen to the side just to read the end of a sentence? Mobile websites were accepted by all as they allowed us to view the content displayed perfectly to any screen size. Designed specifically to be used on your smartphone, mobile websites are almost a necessity these days.

Mobile Apps

I find mobile apps to be a commitment. Like Benedict Evans puts it, “Do people want to put your icon on their home screens?” The answer for most brands is, “No”. More often than never mobile apps are not free and have to be paid for to be used. Having to spend money on something that does not bring me joy is a waste. Then why is it that we have so many apps downloaded on our phones? The reason I believe is that most of the time, they do bring joy. Examples of applications that first came out included, E-mail, Google Docs etc. Mobile apps have come a long way since then. Some of the best apps right now include Uber, Spotify and Swift key. Apps have become part of our daily lives. With a mobile screen full of logos, it is obvious that mobile apps are growing in industry and popularity. Amazon makes more revenue through its app than their website.

Design Modo has an article titled Responsive design vs Mobile sites vs App where they talk about designing and building a good mobile experience via a smartphone.

Pros and Cons

As you can see both have their own sets of pros and cons. Let’s have a look at them.

Mobile websites pros

VineetKumar.me mobile site

  • Inexpensive – All you need is an internet connection to view the website.
  • Works on all devices – Be it your iPhone, Android device or Tablet, the site adjusts to your screen.
  • Easy to set up – More like, no setup required. Ready to use at any time.

Mobile websites cons

  • No offline access – You would be unable to use the website without an active internet connection.
  • Longer wait times – Depending on the website, and your internet speed, it might take a while to download or use the desired service.

Mobile apps pros

  • Offline access – Being able to play a game on my mobile device without an internet connection? Yes, please!
  • Less cluttered – This all depends on the design but most apps are less cluttered.
  • Quick response time – A well-designed app should have a quick response time and navigate between pages without loading for ages. It’s surely faster than a website.

Mobile apps cons

  • Extra expense – All apps are not free. I don’t mind spending $10 on a monthly app subscription but if I can find the same information for free on a mobile website, you know what I’m going to choose.
  • Requires a download – This is probably one of the most annoying negative sides of mobile apps. Of course, if the app is amazing, no one minds the download. I get so frustrated when I go through the trouble of downloading an app, only to find it crashes every time I open it.
  • Considerable size – Dear Facebook, your iOS App is more than 250 megabytes in size, can you please do something about it. *Swapnil’s low phone storage problem 🙁 *

We have now discussed the pros and cons of the consumer.

Let’s talk about Business

TechGlobule.com

Nowadays, every business needs to establish a mobile presence. When making that decision, you need to know where to invest your money. No matter which one is better, every business needs a website that displays well on a mobile device. 80% of Internet users own a mobile device. This is a huge chunk of the market one could reach.

According to Smart Insights, if you are not able to reach your audience through mobile search or display, you will miss out on business opportunities. The consumer expects to have your website fit perfectly on the device they are using. Not every website owner has caught up with this trend though. I still find myself staring at text so small and having to zoom in, only to view half the page. This is unacceptable in today’s world and you are doing yourself and your audience a disservice. Having a mobile website set up is not a complicated process. Find an expert to make a mobile website for your website. It is an investment that will pay off for sure.

E.g. TechGlobule has a marvellous mobile site, you can read this article on your mobile again 😉

Benefits of going with a Mobile Website

  1. Instantly accessible. You just type in your web address. No downloading required.
  2. Mobile websites can be upgraded immediately.
  3. Mobile websites are easier and less expensive to create and maintain. Price is usually included when you design a mobile website.
  4. Faster transfer of information.
  5. Setup is a breeze compared to an app. You need a domain and hosting.

Mobile websites are doing well.

Benefits of going with a Mobile App

  1. Works offline. You can read articles and listen to podcasts without an internet connection available.
  2. Dependent on the app design, it is usually less cluttered.
  3. You will have a direct marketing tool at your disposal.
  4. Build a brand. Every person who has downloaded the app will constantly see your little logo on the screen.

Many businesses are finding it costly to acquire new users.

What does the future hold? Predictions for trends in 2020?

  • Responsive designs for different age groups. Online experiences should be different for different ages. A 10-year-old should have a great online experience and so should a 70-year-old.
  • More Google Web-based Apps like Weather and Word Coach

Conclusion

However, it always has been difficult to predict the future, but mobile devices are surely not going anywhere. They will only get better. We hope that 2020 will take mobile websites and mobile apps to a new level.

Are you excited to see how these mobile websites and mobile apps will be improved in the future? What are some of your predictions for 2020? and which one do you think might win the Battle?

Give your ideas, opinions, and votes in the comments. 🙂

10 Hidden Features of iOS 12 You Didn’t Know About

Hi Guys,

Today, we will talk about some hidden but very useful features which you probably were not aware of before reading this article.

Apple and the Evolution of Technology in iDevices

Apple is one of those companies that has reached impressive levels of technological evolution. When you say Apple, you say iOS. They manage to impress us every year with a new launch, making things more amazing and exciting every time. Apple focuses on improving the overall experience for iOS users. Thus, they launched iOS 12, adding a lot of features that you had never thought about. Are you curious? Then keep reading this article.

10 Hidden Features of iOS 12 You Didn’t Know About

1. Improved memory info

One of the biggest problems smartphone users have nowadays is the continuously depleting battery. There are so many applications available today for users, which drain the device’s battery extremely fast. Therefore, users are forced to always have an external battery in their bag or be always close to a plug point to charge their smartphone. But, what if you could investigate which applications are the ones consuming your phone’s battery? iOS 12 comes with this benefit, offering you various charts, breakdowns, and graphics to help you understand which apps are the biggest consumers. Furthermore, you can also find out when those applications have used your battery the most.

How to view battery usage in iOS 12?

2. Set Up Alternate Appearance

Touch ID is already history. iOS users started to become familiar with to Face Recognition Feature. However, if you want to let your spouse or friend check your phone, even though it is not recommended, now Apple allows you to use an alternate appearance feature. All you have to do is go to Settings, Face ID & Passcode, choose Authenticate, and then tap on Set Up Alternate Appearance. It is as simple as that. On the other hand, you can always reset your Face ID recognition. All you have to do is follow the same steps and choose this option instead.

3. Advanced Do Not Disturb Features

Even though this is not a new feature, it comes with something special. Probably you are not too open to use it as you might forget to turn it off. Just imagine how your friends or relatives would react if they tried to contact you and you forgot to turn off the Do Not Disturb feature. iOS combines it with 3D Touch in Control Center which allows you to turn on Do Not Disturb for a set amount of time. For instance, you can turn it on for an hour or until the end of an event. It will turn off automatically once it has reached the set period. This is an important feature to consider as it can be your ally whenever you want to use your phone less and stay away from distractions.

4. Receive Notifications Quietly

Is it even possible? With iOS 12 everything is possible. When you want to work on a very important project or you want to focus on a private conversation, you certainly don’t want notifications to constantly pop up on your lock screen. Now you can receive your emails quietly and get rid of that annoying phone buzz that attracts your attention and the person’s standing next to you. Once you are free and you want to see them, you can manually pull them up from the Notification Center.

5. Emoji Turned into Memoji

If you are still using emojis in your messages, then you need to upgrade yourself. Memoji is in trend now helping you communicate with your friends easily and establishing stronger connections. You can even take selfies with your Memoji. Just let your imagination work and leave everything to Memoji to customize your photo or message.

How to make a Memoji in iOS 12?

6. Lyric Search

How many times have you heard a song and you couldn’t remember its name? Isn’t it annoying to hear a song in your head and not be able to find it online and add it to your playlist? iOS 12 puts an end to this nightmare allowing you to search your music by lyrics. Type the lyrics you remember in Apple Music and iOS 12 will do the rest. You will be amazed to see how fast it returns the results and helps you find the song which you were obsessing about.

7. AirPods Become Hearing Aid Devices

Live Listen is an amazing feature that you can use with your AirPods. Thanks to this, you will be able to clearly hear what is happening around you even in a noisy environment. Therefore, if you have problems with your hearing, iOS 12 gives you a helping hand and helps you enjoy the outside world. You can also easily reconnect with the events around you even while playing music or listening to a podcast. How cool is that?

Editor note - Even I was unaware about this one. It sounds great.

8. New Password Management API

If you are currently using a third-party password manager, then iOS 12 will make it more powerful than before. Therefore the next time you log in to your favourite apps, the password will immediately appear thanks to this new feature. Thus, you won’t have to worry about getting locked out of your accounts because of forgetting passwords.

9. Disabling USB Accessories

This is a new security feature since many hackers or other people with ill intent might be able to crack and overcome an iPhone’s lock screen password by connecting the device to another device via the USB port, Apple added this feature which disables the Lightning port on the iOS devices if it hasn’t been unlocked in an hour.

You can access this feature by opening Settings > Face ID & Passcode and then scrolling towards the bottom of the screen and toggling the required switch to On position.

10. Automatic Updates

This is not as much as a hidden feature, but surely a feature which deserves to be mentioned. You can access it by opening Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates. Once enabled, new iOS updates will be downloaded via WiFi and installed overnight automatically without much user interaction.

Of course, Apple is not going to stop here. iOS 12 comes as an upgrade to iOS 11, offering various features that amaze Apple users. All these features have only one purpose, to simplify users’ lives easier and help them keep pace with the trends.

Which features did we miss? What’s your favourite feature? What features do you want to see in future updates? Tell us your views down in the comments.

How to convert PDF to Docs | PDF Converter Ultimate

Hi Guys,

Happy 2018 Guys, what are your new year resolutions this year, type them down in the comments. Mine is to spend less time typing pdf file contents to docs. Hence, here we are testing and talking about this app “PDF Converter Ultimate” by Cometdocs.com.

What is PDF Converting?

What is PDF?

Most of you might already know this, but for the rest, PDF is a file format used to store documents such that they can be viewed the same way that the printed documents will look. PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is used to digitize and store documents more efficiently which also makes it easier to share and maintain.

Read more at sodapdf.com/compress-pdf/

Why do we need a PDF Converter?

As we know, a PDF is a read-only format and cannot be edited. So, in the old days whenever someone needed to edit even a single word in a PDF file, they had to type the whole document and make the edit and then save it as a PDF again.

PDF Converter Ultimate recognizes the content written in a PDF file through OCR and converts it to any other desired format such as MS Word, and any other file format as needed, where the user can make whatever changes required.

What is OCR?

OCR stands for Optical Character Reading. This is the technique used by converters to scan the textual content from any pdf and then save them in another file format. But sometimes, there are graphics ( images, tables, logos ) etc. in a pdf file, which may sometimes make the conversion a bit janky. Because of this OCRs can never be true 100% accurate.

You can see the conversions below and decide for yourself though.

Awesome Features of PDF Converter Ultimate

Multi-Platform Availability

This app is available not only for Android and iOS but also as a Web-based App. So I won’t need to find any alternatives to PDF Converter Ultimate while using any device.

Converts to any file type

It gives options to convert a PDF File to the following formats –

  • Text (Notepad, WordPad)
  • Word (MS Word, Google Docs)
  • Excel (MS Excel, Google Sheets)
  • PowerPoint (MS Powerpoint, Google Slides)
  • Image
  • AutoCAD
  • and even more.

Support for all Online Storage Systems

One of the best and most distinguishing features of this app is that it supports converting files directly from an online storage space. And it supports almost all the popular Online Storages like –

Fast and Accurate

It’s relatively faster and delivers more accuracy than any of the other converters I have ever used. I am not that accurate of a judge, but I would say it converts with about 95% accuracy. There are sample conversions provided below.

Many people believe that converters should convert the whole file 100% accurately and make it editable, but sometimes graphics like tables or images etc. don’t convert very well, and the formatting of the text is lost as well, but that’s not the fault of the converter, it’s how the converters work. I have explained the working above in “What is OCR?

Where can I get PDF Converter Ultimate?

PDF Converter Ultimate is available to download for –

and Android (Google Play Store) and web-app (Cometdocs.com) as well.

The App is available for Free but the conversions can be bought as a one-time in-app purchase. One can either choose to buy single file format conversion packs for cheaper individual packs. E.g. PDF to Word or PDF to Excel etc. or one can buy the All Conversions Pack to unlock all conversions.

Note that it’s just a one-time payment for a lifetime worth of conversions with no limits on file size, so the prices are quite cheap for such a good service like this.

How to use it?

  • Get the App

Download the app from the above link. Links for the latest version for all platforms are listed above.

  • Get Conversion Pack

Open and buy the Conversion Pack best suited to your needs. I personally use the All Conversions Pack.

  • Select PDF File

Depending on where your PDF file is, you can either open the PDF Converter Ultimate app and connect it to iCloud, or Google Drive or any other online storage you like to use.
OR you can open your pdf file from any app and then use Share > Copy to PDF Converter to open it in the app.

  • Select Conversion Format

Once the pdf file is opened in the PDF Converter Ultimate, you can tap the upper left button of Convert > File Format. Choose the file format you want to convert your pdf to, if unsure, choose Word.

  • Enjoy

Now, the pdf file will automatically be uploaded to the CometDocs’ server, where it will be converted, and the converted file will be downloaded back on the device. This is done to provide the highest conversion speeds even on low-end devices. So the actual time depends on how fast your internet connection is.

It might take time if you upload a 100-page pdf, but a couple of pages of pdf are converted almost instantaneously.

Suggestions for the App Developers

I would like to suggest a few simple and optimal changes which I feel will be beneficial for the app and the users as well.

As much as I appreciate the minimalism, the name is too Generic, a google search never leads to this particular app unless I search CometDocs. So add another word to the App Title, “Cometdocs PDF Converter Ultimate” or “CometDocs PDF Ultima” if you prefer shorter names, even “Comet PDF Converter” is a good and more memorable & searchable one.

A general user or office worker (without technological background) when using this app, (s)he might expect the app to deliver 100% accurate conversions, even a single mistake can result in low stars and bad reviews on the app store. To avoid this, the app can follow one of the 2 strategies.

  1. Describe or Advertise/Market the app as 80% accurate, this may sound like a bad idea, but when the user uses the app, expecting a lower quality and if the quality of conversion delivered is even better than the expectations, the App is definitely gonna get more and better reviews than right now.
Even if the quality is really 80% accurate, even then the user won’t leave a bad review, everyone approves and appreciates honesty.
  2. Provide free trial conversions in all formats for the user to get an idea of how the app is gonna be before buying it.
I know that the service can be used for free on the site, But a lot of users are not gonna search for that. If they downloaded an app, they need a trial there as well.

These are just the ideas I thought might help the app. I am no expert, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

Final Verdict

I have just talked about the technical and practical features of this app yet. But I truly adored the minimalistic approach and UI. Any app with a simple and clutter-less UI is great because then I can also teach older people like my dad to use it.

Overall, I liked the app a lot, and it can enjoy better ratings on the App Store, in future.

What do you think, guys, how’s the app, if it’s good, go rate it well in the App Store, if it’s not that good, explain why in the comments below and suggest what shall be changed or improved in the app according to you.

That’s all folks.

Truth behind "Why Snapchat CEO is not wrong?"

Hi Guys,

Today we will shed some light on the quick-tempered and illogical actions of media and Indian teens, yes I am definitely going to talk about this, without hesitation, because I know if you are a familiar reader, you know we don’t mislead people, and if you are a new guy, I have all the required logic to win you over.

Note

I’m approaching to teens mostly on this particular topic, because I noticed their rage against this, this might or might not be applicable to other sections of society. But if you think SnapChat CEO is wrong, and shall be punished, then you should definitely, go ahead and read this whole article.

What’s the Incident as Indian people know?

According to what a normal, average, informed, social media using teen of India, one day he or she suddenly came to know that the SnapChat CEO called India “poor“.

The after effect

All Indians started boycotting the SnapChat App, raging against the CEO, abusing the CEO, basically if he was within their reach, they might have physically harassed him. The SnapChat app has a 1 star rating on Apple App Store as of right now.

Approaching the situation

Now let’s see what’s really going on here, one step at a time.

What is SnapChat?

SnapChat is a fun messaging app. You can capture a photo or brief video with it, then add a caption or doodle or filter/lens over the top, and send the snap to a friend or set it as your SnapChat story, a 24-hour collection of all your snaps that is broadcasted to the world or just your followers.

But these are merely part of the many features within SnapChat. Yes, at its core, SnapChat is used to send photos and videos to friends. Your friends can view snaps for up to 10 seconds, and then the snaps disappear. While that’s all fine and dandy, many people are still left stumped by SnapChat.

Apart from this unique to its platform media sharing, you can just use it for regular chat purposes as well.

So basically, IT IS A FREE CAMERA APP WITH MESSAGING.

Where to get it?

It is available for Android and iPhones as well. I’m not going off topic, I just want you guys to test it, if you feel anything at all even remotely related to money. It is a bloody CAMERA.

But the news claimed that CEO said that India  “Poor” -_-

Yeah, coming to the main topic,  according to the article on Variety (US Edition) which starts like

“SnapChat CEO Said ‘This App Is Only for Rich People,’ Ex-Employee Alleges”

Now let me present you a number of logical arguments with ample amount of proof,

  1. Ex-Employee Alleges
    • According to Variety.com, Anthony Pompliano, is already been fired from SnapChat over a 3 week tenure, and has been involved in a lawsuit in L.A. Superior Court with SnapChat.
    • As per the news articles, Pompliano claims that CEO gave this statement in a presentation meeting which went wrong back in 2015, mind that he waited 2 years before revealing that.
    • I wonder what are the odds Pompliano is just making this up to turn the lawsuit in his favour.
  2. The SnapChat CEO Evan Spiegel
    • According to BusinessInsider.com and Forbes, Evan Spiegel with an estimated net worth of $2 billion, 26-year-old Spiegel is the youngest billionaire in the world.
    • So mind that, he is one of the youngest and smartest brains in the technology industry from whose company, even Facebook itself regularly borrow/copy its features.Take that Facebook. **Shots fired**
    • The app would not have been launched in Indian market if it wouldn’t have been meant for Indians to use, moreover it’s a free app and a bloody camera, which has nothing to do with the economic status on countries for God sake, use your mind.
  3. The Great Indian Media Circus
    • I have read about tens of different news articles on this topic, and guess what I found, only the Indian media stated that “SnapChat CEO said …” whereas all the foreign media where everything took place stated that “SnapChat CEO said … as alleged by ex-employee…”.
    • Take a look at the news cutouts in the section below.
    • The Indian media carefully obstructed the part which would make the news something which will enrage every Indian who reads it. As one may say, “The BREAKING NEWS phenomena” of Indian media.
    • But I wonder, if one is blindly accepting anything shown on news channels as true, then it’s his her own fault for being trolled by news channels. The news channels are just a group of people and they too have to sell news in order to earn their paychecks, every once in a while they will exaggerate some news, make some fake accusations, or do something likewise, it shall be the duty of an educated member of society to act with precautions instead of being irrational and using head-on hate speech on  anyone either outside or inside the country.
  4. Misfired Hate Sentiments
    • SnapDeal a totally different company, an Indian company, was victim to hate speech, because a few people couldn’t differentiate between SnapChat and SnapDeal.
    • Just take a look in the pictures below.
    • I’m not saying that people are morons, a few of them are maybe, but not all. What I am trying to say is that people with clouded judgement and irrational emotions can be extremely harmful to everyone.
What did SnapDeal did to you, come on, man, be reasonable?

Conclusion : A Letter to Indian people

Dear Indians,

Have you ever wondered why no one calls America “poor”, not because everyone fears the America but it will be an extremely stupid and impulsive act to call them poor. They won’t even blink an eye upon you and you will regret your actions shamefully.

On the contrary, In India, we make people like that celebrities, the so-called “Breaking News” of the moment. We actively make them feel as if they in fact have rub salt in our wounds. We are not poor. Not at all. But I’m sad to acknowledge that many of us are sort of stupid on our part, our actions do not match the level of education we receive, because it has nothing to do with education, it is more related to what we think about others and ourselves and our great nation.

I’m not saying anything against India, mind that. But the people who curse Evan Spiegel and feel patriotic about it, disgust me. I love my nation, for me it is the best, but that should not cloud my judgement or my actions.

No court has confirmed those allegations made by Pompliano yet, so stop harassing SnapChat.

Prove me wrong, If you can, with evidence or at least logic.

Written by a proud Indian who is sad because of irrational acts of his fellow society members.

A few pictures you should take a look at

By the way, people who are gonna comment that Facebook and Twitter is never wrong, let me remind you that Facebook and Twitter is used by people just like and me, they are humans and they can be mistaken too. So don’t, I repeat don’t trust anyone blindly, human error is present everywhere and cannot be eradicated no matter what.

If you guys don’t like this post, just explain me why, I might be wrong in thinking that Pompliano is at fault, but at least I can explain how I came to such a view-point. Those blaming Evan have no view-point are following the media like sheep follows a dog.

I do apologize for my rough language, it might have hurt someone.

Thanks for reading, let me know your views upon this in the comments.

That’s all folks.

Get paid apps for free in iOS 10 without Jailbreak via vShare

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year to all of my readers and friends out there, yeah, I know I haven’t been very punctual for a while now, but to compensate for that, here’s a belated Christmas present, in form of free apps.

Today, we will get some paid apps for free in any iOS device without jailbreaking it with the help of this app called vShare and a Windows PC/Laptop.

Happy Christmas

Why a post on Downloading Paid Apps for free?

TechGlobule by no means is supporting or will ever support Piracy. We are with all our might against Piracy.

And the only reason we are showcasing apps like these is because they provide a way for users who are willing to pay for an app or game, but want to try it out beforehand, and before paying their hard-earned money. Many of the times if not all, after buying an app, it seems unworthy of the money spent.

How does it work?

vShare Helper Installer

vShare acts as an alternative to App Store, featuring all the apps on the original App Store and more. It (mis)uses the Developer certificates issued by Apple.
Apple issues Developer certificates to companies which want all of their employees to have a specific app. vShare uses this certificate and pretend that all its users are its employees. So you see, the apps you’ll install are genuine.
The only difference is that all the apps are free.

Extra Benefits

  • You can install apps which are not compatible to your device.
I played Assassin Creeds Infinity on an iPad 2, not iPad Air 2, just iPad 2.
  • You can install apps not available in your country’s app store.
  • You can install apps which are no longer supported by the App Store, or discontinued.
I played FIFA 14 as well, because it played more smoothly on an old iPad 2.
  • You can install apps like Movie Box or other jailbroken Cydia Apps.
    Ooh yes!! 😉

Will it support my device?

Yes, the app supports all iPhones, iPads etc. whether jail-broken or not. I have not tested it on an iPod yet.

The app worked absolutely fine on my iPad 2 (iOS 9.2.1). I haven’t tested in any other device.

Its website vshare.com says that it will work on any iOS from iOS 7.x.x to iOS 10.x.x. Tell us in the comments, how it worked out for you.

How to get it?

You can just follow the screenshots steps, down below, or you can read the steps, 🙂

  1. Open a Windows PC/Laptop, go to vShare.com and download vShare for PC using the Download button.
  2. Once downloaded, open the file to install it.
  3. Choose Yes in Windows User Control dialogue box, if it appears. Refer to screenshots.
  4. Choose one key installation button, in vShare Helper installation.

Top 10 WhatsApp Tricks for everyone

Hi Guys,

Today we are discussing some tips and tricks for using WhatsApp. We’ve lined up some interesting tricks and tweaks that will improve your user experience.

What is WhatsApp?

I’m summarizing this in as fewer lines as possible, just for the sake of newbies.

WhatsApp is an instant messaging app for smartphones. In January 2015, WhatsApp was the most globally popular messaging app with more than 600 million active users. In September 2015 the user base has grown up to 900 million.
WhatsApp Inc., based in Mountain View, California, was acquired by Facebook on February 19, 2014, for approximately US$16 billion.

For most of us, WhatsApp has become the default messaging app, because everyone’s on it, and it’s on nearly every platform. The app has made itself indispensable by adding a browser version and voice calling to its platform.

Tip & Tricks

The following tips and tricks might be available on more platforms, but for the sake of convenience of writing, I’m giving the steps of Android devices and iPhones only. Anyone using a different platform can ask for steps in the comment section below.

  • Sharing Locations and Contacts

Along with images, videos and music, users can share locations. This might be their current location or any other interesting place around you. Users can also share contacts.

Tap on the Send location in the attachment pane to send your current location or explore interesting hotspots around you. The map is a mash-up of FourSquare check-ins of places around you. You’ll find everything from local tech start-ups to restaurants, marked as blue dots. You can share contacts by choosing Share contact.

  • Backup Messages on Cloud

Users can back up their messages and media in the cloud. In case of changing the device, or reinstalling WhatsApp, you’ll no longer lose your messages.

Android users can make backups on Google Drive by Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup > Google Drive.
iPhone users can make backups in iCloud by Settings > Chats and Calls > Chat Backup > Back Up Now.

  • Checking Read Status

Users can check the “read status” of individual messages as well as group messages.

Android users can select their message and press the i button above to check the “read status”.
iPhone users can press and hold on to their messages and then tap on Info to check the “read status”.

  • Send Public Messages Privately

This is known as Broadcasting Message. This feature is equivalent to BCCing an e-mail. That is your message will be sent to a group, but each group member will receive the message personally; in a personal chat.

Android users can broadcast a message from Menu < New broadcast. Add group members. Then send your message.
iPhone users can broadcast a message from Chats < Broadcast Lists < New list. Add group members, then send you a message.

  • WhatsApp Status

It’s not a trick not an important feature but a cool one though. Many people seem to ignore this feature.
One can also have a status of a max. of 138 characters along with their WhatsApp profile picture.
You can set a message (like an inspirational message) that others can read even when you are offline, or you can select from the default options present in the app.
Android users can change their status from Menu > Status.
iPhone users can change their status from Settings > Profile > Status.

  • Saving Mobile Data

One can save a lot of mobile data by disabling automatic media download.

Android users can disable automatic downloading from Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Media auto-download > While using mobile data. Remove all the ticks.
iPhone users can disable automatic downloading from Setting > Chat and Calls > Media Auto-Download. Select Wi-Fi for Images, Audio and Videos as well.

Another method to save data is by lowering data usage used in a WhatsApp call.

Android user can do so from Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > Low data usage. Select it.
iPhone users can do so from Settings > Chats and Calls > Low Data Usage. Switch it on.

  • WhatsApp Call

Yes, WhatsApp didn’t just make SMSing obsolete but is trying to make cellular Calling obsolete as well.

Both Android and iPhone users can call a contact by tapping the phone button on the side of their profile picture.

  • WhatsApp Web

If you are tired of touchscreens or just want to continue your chats from a laptop or PC. You can do so by WhatsApp Web. On your laptop/PC browser, go to web.whatsapp.com.

Android device users go to Menu > WhatsApp Web. Follow the steps on your phone.
(Only iOS 8.1+) iPhone users head to Settings > WhatsApp Web. Follow the on-screen steps.

Read more about another app, called Telegram – techglobule.com/telegram-messenger
  • WhatsApp Walkie Talkie

That’s not an official feature but a trick. If you are tired of typing. You can just use it as a walkie-talkie. That is hold the little mic while you speak, and leave it to send. To cancel the voice message, you can slide to the left while holding the mic.

Both Android and iPhone users will find the mic over the keyboard on the chat screen.

  • Tell us something we missed in the comments and we will include it here.

That’s all folks.

Share files from Android to iOS to Windows: SHAREit

Hi Guys,

Today, we are going to discuss about an easy & wireless way to share files among smartphones, tablets and personal computers running different operating systems, through an app initially made by Lenovo known as SHAREit.

What is SHAREit?

SHAREit is the fastest file transferring cross-platform application from Lenovo Pvt. Ltd. that allows you to share photos, music, videos, apps (only in Android) or virtually any file regardless of size and type without the use of internet or wires. Lenovo’s SHAREit wirelessly transfers files & data rapidly between devices – either with friends, or to take your personal content on the go.

Features –

  • It is about 40x faster than Bluetooth.
  • Eliminates the use of Cables, or BlueTooth.
  • There are virtually no limits on the size or type of the file to be shared.
  • Can share any kind of file, from pictures to apps in any format.
  • Did I mention it is free?
  • It is cross-platform & lets you share files between iOS, Android, or Windows Devices, which are the most commonly used operating systems out there.

How does it work?

SHAREit uses the WiFi Direct sharing technology, whereas other apps (mostly) use BlueTooth or conventional Wifi network (or sometimes Internet) which is present nearby.

What is WiFi Direct?

Remember the way you shared your internet data through a personal hotspot, in which your device created a WiFi hotspot and let you share your cellular data (2G, 3G or 4G internet) in the form of WiFi to nearby devices.

Now, WiFi Direct is a technology which allows your device to create such a WiFi hotspot but without the use of the internet, intended with a purpose of sharing files over the network. Thus, you can easily connect with each other without requiring any cables, or the internet; and share files with typical WiFi speeds.

My device doesn’t support WiFi Direct. But still, transfers are Fast. How?

It lets you share files with typical WiFi speeds which can be 20MB/s or even higher in some cases.

For devices, without WiFi Direct, it simply Turns on the Personal Hotspot and does its magic in sharing files hyperfast.

App Requirements

This app requires only about 12.1MB (on average) for storage purpose. It is currently available for Android smartphones, iOS Devices, Windows Phone, and blackberry phones. It also supports Windows Desktop currently and is planning to extend its functioning to the Mac OS.

Supported devices with download link

  • Android Compatibility

It will work with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and above.
It needs around 6.5MB of storage space.
Download from this Play Store link.

  • iOS Compatibility

It will work with iOS 8 or more.
It needs around 29.6MB of space.
Download from this link of App Store for iPhones and iPads.

  • Windows Compatibility

It needs 3.09MB on Mobile devices and 9.2MB for Desktop Devices.
Download from this link of Windows Store for Windows Mobile.
OR from this link of uSHAREit.com for Windows Desktop.

  • Mac Compatibility

It needs around 4.6MB of space.
Download from this link of uSHAREit.com for Mac OS.

How to use?

  • Download and install SHAREit on your devices from the links given above.
  • Once installed, give a specific name to your device.
  • You will get the option to either send or receive.
  • Tap on Send on the device from which you want to share photos, videos, music, contacts, or even apps (only for Android users).
  • Select all the files that you want to share and tap the OK button.
  • Tap on Receive on the second device.
  • For Android: You will see the second device on the first device’s screen Select that.
For Others: You’ll get on-screen instructions, commonly to connect both devices to the same network.
  • Data transfer will start.

Get paid apps for free in iOS9 without Jailbreak via KuaiYong

Hi Guys,

Today, we are gonna learn how to get paid apps for free in an iOS device without jailbreak or use of PC with the help of this famous or I may say infamous app is called KuaiYong.

Why a post on Downloading Paid Apps for free?

TechGlobule by no means is supporting or will ever support Piracy. We are with all our might against Piracy.

And the only reason we are showcasing apps like KuaiYong or Tongbu is because they provide a way to users who are willing to pay for an app or game, but want to try it out beforehand, and before paying their hard-earned money. Many of the times if not all, after buying an app, it seems unworthy of the money spent.

Who is the developer?

KuaiYong means “Use Quickly” in Chinese. You can follow KuaiYong on Sina Weibo for usage updates and other news related to KuaiYong.

How does the app works?

KuaiYong acts as an alternative App Store, featuring almost all the apps on the original App Store. It (mis)uses the Developer certificates issued by Apple.

Apple issues Developer certificates to companies which want all of their employees to have a specific app. KuaiYong misuses this certificate and pretend that all its users are its employees. So you see, the apps you’ll install are genuine.

The only difference is that all the apps are free on KuaiYong.

More apps are available to download on KuaiYong as compared to Tongbu.

Will it support my device?

Yes, the app supports all iPhones and iPads, whether jail-broken or not. I have not tested it on an iPod, but I have a hunch it might work on it as well. It worked fine on iOS 7.x.x. and iOS 9.x.x. You will have to test yourself if you are using any other iOS version. Don’t worry, even if the test fails, the worst thing that can happen is that you will not be able to open the app after installing it, in such a case you can simply delete it. I personally tested it on an iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.2, now iOS 9.0.1) and iPad 2 (iOS 8.1.4, now iOS 9.2).

How to get it?

i) Open Safari in the iOS device. This only works on Safari.

ii) Open Kuaiyong. This link will redirect you appropriately according to your device and iOS version.

iii) You will land a site in Chinese language. Tap the red button visible on the bottom of the screen.

iv) A box will appear asking dinfo.wanmeiyueyu.com would like to install “@!#!@#!@#”. Tap on Install.
Here, @!# represents KuaiYong written in Chinese.

v) For iOS 9: Go to Settings > General > Profiles > Fujian Yongda Group Co. > Trust.
For iOS 8 or below: When opening the app, a message may occur asking you if you trust the app developer. Tap on Trust.

How to use it?

Follow these steps to correctly use the KuaiYong app.

  • Unfortunately the app is in Chinese.
  • But don’t panic. It is more easier to use than it seems.
  • Refrain using Apple ID in the KuaiYong app.
  • On launching the app, a pop up might appear asking if you want to become a life-time member. Tap the left button which means Cancel. Because lifetime members have to install KuaiYong for PC, which is not only tedious but can be potentially dangerous as well.
  • No need to configure its settings, the default settings are well enough.
  • You will see a magnifying glass on the top right corner(iPad) or in middle bottom (iPhone) tap on it to reveal Search.
  • Search for any app, let’s say Need For Speed.
  • You will find a list of apps with their icons to their left (iPad) or right (iPhone). Tap the “circle with arrow inside” button to download that app.

After downloading any app –

  • You can see Downloads by tapping the “circle with arrow inside” button on top right side corner (iPad) or right of magnifying glass (iPhone).
  • The first screen shows currently downloading apps. Tap on “Downloaded” to go to second screen. See screenshots to understand how Downloaded or Downloading looks in Chinese.
  • The second one shows downloaded apps. Tap on “Downloading” to go to first screen.
  • You can tap on any downloaded app to reveal 2 options, the blue option is for installing that game, and the red option is to delete that downloaded file after installing it.
  • For iOS 9: Go to Settings > General > Profiles > ‘something’ Group Co. > Trust.
For iOS 8 or below: When opening the app, a message may occur asking you if you trust the app developer. Tap on Trust.

Note for Jailbroken users

Jailbroken users can also use the same way to download KuaiYong.

Taig Jailbreak Tool (iOS 8.4)

Hi Guys,

Today, we are gonna discuss about the recently updated TaiG JailBreak Tool v2.4.1 which can jailbreak devices running iOS devices upto iOS 8.4. You can check your iOS version in Settings > General > About > Version before jailbreaking.

If you want to know What is Jailbreaking. Go to this article, it’ll explain you all about it.

What is TaiG JailBreak Tool?

A jailbreak tool named TaiG is released by the TaiG Team and is frequently updated to keep jailbreaking latest iOS version.
TaiG v1.2.1. This tool allows for an untethered jailbreak on devices, running iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.1.2. Read more.
TaiG v1.3. This tool allows for an untethered jailbreak on devices, running iOS 8.2 Beta 2. Read more.
TaiG v2.4.1. This is the most anticipated update of TaiG, because as the jailbreak tool for iOS 8.2 Beta 2 came before a tool for iOS 8.4, many people believed iOS 8.4 to be un-jailbreakable. But nonetheless, Jailbreak community came to rescue as always, this time updating TaiG v2.1.2 to TaiG v2.4.1. This tool allows for an untethered jailbreak on devices, running iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.4. Read more by scrolling below.

Who are the TaiG Team?

Team TaiG first launched their jailbreak tool on 29 November 2014 which could jailbreak iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.1.2. Not much is known about this group of Jailbreakers, except that they are Chinese Developers or Hackers. We can say that confidently because both their site is in Chinese language . In early 2015, they updated and revised their existing jailbreak techniques to further develop the tool to make it able to jailbreak iOS 8.2 Beta 2.

And here they come again with further updating TaiG tool to v2.1.2, which can now successfully jailbreak iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.4.

How to get it?

To use the TaiG JailBreak Tool to jailbreak your iOS device, first you need to install Taig on your PC, which is easily available to download via the following link of TaiG.com. Download it in your Windows PC. Here’s the link – drive.google.com/installer/TaiGJBreak_EN_2.4.10.zip

How to use it?

Preparation –

i) After downloading the zipped file, unzip it in your PC.
ii) Install iTunes, if not installed already via link 32 bit OR 64 bit.
iii) Backup your device using iTunes (or iCloud) before using Taig. If something breaks, you’ll always be able to recover your data. (Personally I prefer to reset my iPhone and not making a full backup, that’s too slow. iCloud is still a better option regarding speed).
iv) Those who use backup passwords in iTunes must disable them for now. After doing so, iTunes makes a brand new backup. Please wait for that backup to complete before proceeding! Feel free to re-enable your backup password after jailbreaking.
v) Disable the lock pass-code of your iOS device before using TaiG via Settings > General > Pass-code Lock.
vi) Disable Find my iPhone (Settings > Privacy > Location Services) and enable AirPlane Mode via Settings.
vii) Make sure to have at least 80% battery in your iDevice, before jailbreaking.

JailBreaking –

viii) Launch iTunes, plug-in your device, once iTunes identifies your device, Launch Taig and kill iTunes via Windows Task Manager.
ix) Keep the Cydia option checked. Make sure to uncheck the second option of 3K assistant or something like that.
x) Click the button of “Start” in the bottom part of Taig window. Just sit back and see its progress.
xi) Avoid using your device or iTunes related tasks until the process is complete. You can just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs.
xii) {Optional step} If the process gets stuck somewhere, it’s safe to restart the program, reboot the device (by holding the Power and Home button simultaneously until the Apple Logo appears), and restart the process, with WiFi off.
xiii) Once the process is done, you will find the “Cydia” app on your home screen which is your AppStore for JailBroken devices.
xiv) You can also set a pass code and enable Find my iPhone. Do disable the Airplane mode.
xv) Now enjoy your jailbroken device.

Precautions –

xvi) If you try to update your device’s iOS version through the phone itself (i.e. OTA Updates), it will un – jailbreak your device. Because in higher versions of iOS, often the security holes are patched. These security holes are used to exploit and root the phone which are present in earlier version of iOS.
xvii) But you can again jailbreak the newer version of iOS too.

TaiG’s Gratitude

“This is TaiG’s third time to release a jailbreak tool. For the last two releases, we received great attention from jailbreak users and technology media worldwide, and we want to say thank you.

An untethered jailbreak takes not only a slice of fortune but an ascetic perseverance. XN, as an exploit developer of TaiG Jailbreak team, is in fact lonely, of very few words and a socially challenged person. Even so, there is still one of his rare times to tell us: he wants to let his brain stop thinking.

The most exciting part in jailbreak development is the moment to see Jailbreak Succeeded. It is the recognition and support of our users that drive us to keep moving forward. At this moment, no word can express the appreciation, and no word has no vulnerabilities. XN chooses to dedicate his enthusiasm and energy to coding and programming.

Thanks for Apple for the greatest product of this era. Thanks for all the jailbreak developers to make the world even better.”

– TaiG Jailbreak Team, 23rd June, 2015
