How to change your Device's ID?

Hi Guys,

Today we are gonna discuss about how to change the Device’s ID, Android ID, SIM serial number and subscriber ID of any Android device.

Why should I change? Are there any benefits?

It has many advantages. Foremost benefit you can make your friends jealous by showing Android 5.5 in About Phone settings whereas in reality, it will be a lot lower.
Now practical benefits include, using coupon codes, many a times you can’t use a certain coupon code on your device just because you or someone else used a similar type of coupon code on your phone. This problem is caused because many apps such as PayTM, SnapDeal etc save your device’s ID and don’t let you earn from those hard-earned coupon of yours.

How to do so?

Prerequisites

First of all you will need a Rooted android device. To check if it’s rooted or not, install Root Checker. If it isn’t rooted, check our How to root post. If you have a rooted Android device, you will need the following apps to change your device’s ID and other such things.

All these apps add upto no more than 13.1 MB.
After downloading the above required apps. Follow these steps –
1. Launch the Xposed Framework, go to the “Framework” section and click on “Install/Update” > Reboot.

  1. Install IMEI Changer app and change the IMEI of your device.
Note – But remember your original IMEI number for when any problem occurs.
  2. In Xposed Framework App, go to modules section > enable Donkey Guard App and RootCloak App in it.

  3. If you want a certain app, say Snapdeal to not know your root status. Open RootClock app  > click on “Add/Remove Apps” > click on the plus sign on top right (to add any app) > Add Snapdeal from it. Similarly, you can add any app to this list.

  4. After doing the above, open the HideMyRoot App and click on “Hide SU Binaries”.

  5. Final step, now open Donkey Guard App and change “Android ID, Device ID, SIM Serial No. , Subscriber ID” (You can click on the pencil icon to generate new values automatically).

  6. Reboot your device, and its done.

Activator Tweak: The best Cydia Tweak

Hi Guys,

Today, we are gonna learn about a famous Cydia Tweak, known as Activator.
For more such tweaks, visit our category of Jailbroken Apps.

What is Activator?

Activator is a tweak designed to improve the customizability of shortcuts in the native iOS system as well as to third-party apps.
It is a dependency of many other major tweaks. It is the backbone of a Jailbroken iDevice. Well, not really, your iDevice can work well without it, but with it, it will work awesome.

What can it do?

Activator Tweak
Activator Tweak

Activator as said in its description on Cydia –
“Centralized gestures, button and shortcut management for iOS.”

Various jailbreak tweaks like LastApp and SBSettings use Activator as their method of activation.

There is plenty of customized actions you can do with Activator on your own to make your life easier. You can use it to quickly launch apps, and perform other system actions. It can be a great way to save time.

Activator can do any “task” when an “action” is triggered (Don’t worry, you are the one here specifying the task as well as the action). The options are Anywhere, At Home Screen, In Application, and At Lock Screen. Each one of these has the same massive list of activations, but they will only trigger if you are in the right part of your phone.

Personally, I always mostly use Anywhere, as I want to use most actions no matter what, but there are times where setting actions only at certain locations can be helpful.

It would fill a whole forum to list the available actions and combinations of actions (Cool!), but I will tell those which I use in my iPhone –
Turning on WiFi whenever I unlock my device, and it off on locking it, (it help saves me battery), I use the same for Location Services too, (yes I can assign multiple tasks to the same action).
I envied the back button of my Android using friends but that was before I jailbreaked my iPhone, I use LastApp, whenever I swipe the right part of the Status Bar, I get back to the last app being used.

It also integrates with tons of other jailbreak tweaks and apps, so many of their actions can be set to custom triggers. Triggers can also be assigned to controlling your music, locking and unlocking your device, launching certain functions on the phone like calling or messaging a specific person, opening different parts of settings, composing messages, posting status, performing system functions such as rebooting and going into safe mode, launching selected apps, and toggling quick settings like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, etc. etc. I’ll be tired if I try to explain its limitless functionality in brief. So as you can see, it can really help automate all kinds of things on your iDevice.

Who is the developer?

Activator tweak was developed by Ryan Petrich. He is one of the well-known Jailbreak Developers and iOS Hacker. This tweak along with other great tweaks are also available on his own Repo http://rpetri.ch/repo/

Will it support my device?

It will most probably work with all iDevices running any iOS. But developers say it supports iOS 5 and above.

How to get it?

It is readily available for free on the BigBoss Repo as well as Ryan’s own Beta Repo in Cydia. Simply search for Activator in the Search section, and install it. If you are unsure how to install, see our post or YouTube video to get assistance regarding installations in Cydia. BigBoss Repo – http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/

How to download Torrents in iOS without Jailbreak?

Hi Guys,

Today, we are gonna learn how to get a BitTorrent client in an iOS device, namely iTransmission.

Why a separate post on Downloading torrents in iOS?

We are doing a separate post on this specific topic mainly because due to some privacy related concerns, Apple Inc. has not allowed any apps which acts or may potentially act a Torrent Client to the App Store.

But I would like to say to Apple Inc. that torrents aren’t always illegal to download. For e.g. Many free softwares (freeware and shareware) can be downloaded via torrents. Also many open source projects and software applications are downloaded via this method. The foremost example is Ubuntu.com, it allows its users to download Ubuntu OS via torrents.

Still, instead of waiting for Apple Inc. to include a Torrent Client, I found myself an app out of App Store.

How does the app works?

iTransmission 4 is a free, open-source native BitTorrent client for iOS that uses libtransmission as its backend, the same backend used in the Transmission client for Mac. iTransmission is a fully featured torrent application that will work on your iPhone and iPod Touch. The app has been updated, now it also supports iPad.

Who is the developer?

iTransmission, the first version, was originally created by Changping Chen, but version 2 and 3 were updated by iOShomebrew. The current version (that is iTransmission4) is an extension from version 3 which is being handled and updated by Andrew Wiik, a jailbreak developer.

Will it support my device?

Well, the app developers say it will support all iOS devices including 64 bit devices like iPhone 5S and iPad Air too but it doesn’t says anything about the iOS version support. I personally tested it on an iPhone 4s (iOS 8.1.1) and it worked awesome.

How to get it?

i) Open Safari in the iOS device. This only works on Safari.

ii) Go to iEmulators.com.

iii) Tap on Apps. You will find a large range of apps.

iv) Tap on iTransmission > Install.

v) A box will appear asking dl.boxcloud.com would like to install “iTransmission”. Tap on Install.

vi) Except some downloading issues, everything was perfect. By downloading issues I mean, an error may occur saying Can’t download App with 2 options Retry and Done. Just hit Done and forget about it for about half a day or so.
I found that it was successfully downloaded and installed.

How to use it?

Using iTransmission is a very easy job.
Simply get any torrent in any app, let’s say Dropbox, Google Drive, Safari, or any 3rd party browser. It also supports magnet URLs.
You will automatically see an 2 options of “Open in…” and “Open in “abc”, where abc can be any installed app.
If abc is not iTransmission, then tap on “Open in…” and select iTransmission.
It will automatically start downloading the torrent.

Important steps –

It will download the torrent files in a storage where you can’t reach, unless you jailbreak. So, basically you can’t just simply delete it.
What I do is after the downloading gets completed, I tap on the Torrent > Files > File > Open in > SHAREit.
Then I open iTransmission again, swipe the torrent to left to reveal Delete button.
On tapping Delete, it shows 2 options “Yes and Delete Data” and “Yes but Keep Data”. Always choose the first option. If you choose the second option, you simply can’t get rid of that downloaded data unless you jailbreak.
After jailbreak, you will have to get a file manager to find and delete that data.
Once the data is transferred to Shareit, it can be easily transferred to any other device.

Note for Jailbroken users

Jailbroken users can simply install iTransmission from Cydia.
You can read our article on How to install apps using Cydia?
For those who prefer a video version of installing apps using Cydia.

Screenshots Gallery

That’s all folks.

Note – To eliminate risks, I personally don’t download torrents on my iPhone because of complicated file manager. This is my personal view. I have told you all possible risks.

How to Port Custom Recovery?

Hi Guys,

Today we are gonna discuss about how to port Custom recoveries in an Android device. So, let’s start.

What is a custom recovery?

A custom recovery is a third-party recovery tool environment. Flashing (aka installing) this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default stock recovery environment. This is a bit like flashing a Custom ROMs like CyanogenMod — but, instead of replacing your device’s Android operating system, it replaces the recovery environment.

Why to install a custom recovery?

A custom recovery environment will do the same things as the stock Android recovery. However, it will also have additional features. Custom recoveries also have the ability to create and restore device backups. Custom recoveries allow you to install Custom ROMs. ClockworkMod even offers a “ROM Manager” app that allows you to access many of these features from a running Android system — this app requires a custom recovery installed to function properly.

How to port custom recovery?

First of all your Android device should be rooted to do this. To know if your device is rooted or not, download Root Checker from the Google Play Store. To root your android device, you may prefer the Ways of Rooting post.

  • Download TWRP/COT/PhilZ or CWM on your PC from any Mediatek device with same screen resolutions.
  • Make sure you have your stock recovery. You can get it with a ReadBack or MTK Droid Root and Tools backup.
  • Now download MTK Boot/Recovery image unpack tool from here.
  • Extract this tool in one folder.
  • Put the images [carliv recovery and stock] in that folder which has extracted tools.
  • Now drag and drop stock recovery to MTK_unpack.bat file.
  • Same with the case of Custom Recovery.
  • Now open the folder of stock recovery folder and open a folder rmdsk in it.
  • Copy these files:
    meta_init.project.rc
    meta_init.rc
    ueventd.rc
    meta_init.modem.rc
    ueventd.goldfish.rc
    fstab
  • Open etc folder and copy recovery.fstab file too.
  • Now replace these files in the Custom recovery with the same directories.
  • Now go back and copy these files from the main folder in which you have your stock recovery’s extracted rmdsk and kernel files:
    kernel
    kernel_header
  • Replace these files in the Custom Recovery too.
  • Now go back to the main folder where you extracted the tool and .IMGs files.
  • Drag and drop the CTR folder to MTK_pack.bat file.
  • You’re done! Now try flashing!

That’s all folks.

Let's escape Android and use CyanogenMod

Hi Guys,

Today, we are gonna discuss the second most coined term by Android users that is Cyanogen Mod, which is only less than the term Android itself. We will try to cover every aspect of CynaogenMod in the following article….

What is Cyanogen Mod?

CyanogenMod is an enhanced open source custom ROM for Android devices.

Features supported by CyanogenMod include native theming support, FLAC audio codec support (which means it can play a larger variety of media file formats), a large Access Point Name list (which means better and easily configurable IP Address settings), an OpenVPN client, an enhanced reboot menu, supportfor Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering, CPU over-clocking and other performance enhancements, soft buttons and other “tablet tweaks“, toggles in the notification pull-down (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS), app permissions management, as well as other interface enhancements. In many cases, CyanogenMod may increase performance and reliability compared with official firmware releases.

Difference between Android vs. CyanogenMod?

CyanogenMod 12

Once or twice a year, the Vanilla Android Open Source Project (known as AOSP) is internally developed, then released to the public, by Google. They give the source code to anyone who wants to download it. The CyanogenMod community, consisted mostly of unpaid volunteers and enthusiasts from around the world, downloads this newest Android code and “ports” it to dozens of new or old leagcy devices. At the same time, other CyanogenMod developers start adding features, fixes, and improvements that Google didn’t include to the CyanogenMod code, which benefits all the devices. The CyanogenMod community has a whole infrastructure for people to build and test experimental versions, report bugs, and contribute back to the source code.

Sometimes features that started in CyanogenMod have appeared in newer version of “official” Android update. And every time Android does a new “code dump” of their latest version, CyanogenMod benefits from Google’s changes.

In this way, CyanogenMod is one (but not the only) community distribution of what started as Vanilla AOSP. The Android community is vibrant, with numerous “modders” and “themers” and “performance enhancers” taking the source code and doing incredible things to it. Generally, there is a spirit of sharing knowledge and empowering people to experiment with controlling their devices, often giving old phones new life, and hopefully having fun in the process.

Why should one care?

CM is an open-source alternate OS intended to replace the one pre-installed on your smart phones and tablets.

If you’ve got an older device that isn’t getting updates anymore, or if your device seems unusually slow, or maybe you’re sick of spyware, adware, and other unwanted garbage on your phone that cam pre-installed and you can’t remove…
Maybe your device is missing features or has been otherwise artificially limited in functionality. Perhaps you just could use a boost in performance…
Or maybe you’d like to be more confident that your operating system has included some of the latest bug fixes…
If so, CM might be for you.

Why is it important or better than other alternatives?

The core ideas are the same throughout CM releases:

  • Secure
  • Light footprint
  • Bloat-free
  • Customizable
  • Open

This translates into an abundance of features that let you truly own your phone.

Cydia – Jailbroken App Store

Hi Guys,

In an earlier post we discussed the Play Store for rooted Android devices known as Xposed Framework.

Today we are gonna discuss the App Store for jailbroken iOS Devices known as Cydia.

What is Cydia?

Cydia is like an App Store on which all the items (apps, modules, tweaks, emulators, etc.) which needs root access to work properly, or which got rejected by Apple Inc. to be included in the official App Store to protect its the limitations it imposes on its devices.
The foremost thing is it also allows you to change the look of your iPhone, which is the main reason we envy our Android friends. You can select from a variety of themes that can change your icons, wallpaper, dock and status bar, etc. You can even use an application called WinterBoard to changes things like your dialer keypad, your Chat bubbles, the color of the WiFi and Signal bars…etc.

Why use Cydia instead of App Store?

It’s an independent, third-party installer application for all the iOS Devices. Developed by Jay Freeman (Saurik), it’s similar to the official App Store but has even better apps to feature. Many a times, apps featured in Cydia make their place in future versions of iOS.

How to get Cydia?

If you have jailbroken your iOS device via a popular or known jailbreak tool like Evasi0n, Pangu or Taig, you will automatically get the lastest version of Cydia installed in your device. Or else, let us know in the comments.

How to use Cydia?

Once you open it, you’ll find 5 sections. Here are the details:

Cydia – Here you’ll find link to Saurik’s Facebook and Twitter page, some sponsored apps (which are mostly paid), account information (it isn’t needed until you buy a paid tweak or app), user guides, FAQs, community help and some extras.

Sources – All the sources / repositories can be viewed here which were either pre-installed or installed by user. Repositories are an online hub where the developers release and store their tweaks for quick access and installation by anyone. You can add or remove sources by tapping on “Edit”. User shouldn’t install unknown repositories, as they may contain harmful app.

Changes – All new programs and updates can be found here. This particular section is updated every time Cydia is opened.

Installed – This section allows you seen all the things ( apps, tweaks, mods etc.) which are installed in your phone. User can remove anything by tapping it > Modify > Remove > Reboot Device / Respring Device (whichever option is visible). But users should refrain removing pre-installed things which are installed during the jailbreak process. To make sure that, one should only use the User tab from above tabs in this section.

Search – If you know the name of the tweak, you can go to this tab and start searching by entering the name. User can install anything by tapping it > Install > Confirm > Reboot Device / Respring Device (whichever option is visible).

Note – You can also use Continue Queuing option if you want to install or remove more than one thing during a restart.

What is the difference between Respring and Reboot?

Respring means Restart Springboard, it can be thought of as a soft restart, in it only the software restarts making it quicker than a reboot. On the other hand, in a reboot, both software and hardware as well restarts. The software of the iDevice is known as the Springboard.

What is the Safe Mode?

In case anything newly installed, gets faulty like any tweak or module, to prevent any harm to itself, the device will automatically restart in safe mode, in which one can go to Cydia and remove the newly installed package via the Installed Section.

How to buy apps from Cydia?

Cydia offers some awesome paid tweaks to spice up your iPhone or iPad. Cydia allows you to login with a Facebook or Twitter account and pay via Amazon gift cards or PayPal. Payments are easier than you would expect.

About the Developer

Jay Freeman (Saurik) first released Cydia in February 2008 as an open-source alternative to Installer.app on iPhone OS 1.1. On November 5, 2014, Cydia was updated to version 1.1.16. This version included some minor bug fixes.

You can see a demo in the Cydia Gallery. Ask your queries or feedback in the comments.

Xposed Framework- Android Tweaks

Hi Guys,

Today we are gonna discuss about the Xposed Framework which is often lauded as the Play Store of Rooted Android.

Xposed framework gives a rooted user the possibility to modify his/her Stock ROM (that is pre-installed ROM); without modifying any Application Package file (aka APK file or your Android apps) or installing any custom ROM.

Advantages of Xposed Framework –

  • No need to change any APK file that are Android apps. This means :
    • No need to decompile, do coding, compile, etc.
    • Modules (aka Mods) or tweaks are specific pre-coded changes which overwrite the coding of the existing ROM (aka OS). Your mods are not bound to a specific version of the ROM. Unless there is a major change in the methods called for a certain functionality, your mod will continue to work even when you upgrade your ROM. Many modules work for a lot of ROMs from different vendors.
    • Multiple mods can be installed at the same time, even if they change the same app or functionality. So you can use these battery icons and those quick toggles. Even hooking the same method twice is possible. Of course, this only works properly if the mods are not trying to do incompatible things.
  • It does its magic at runtime. That means that developers can add settings and do changes based on them (instead of forcing the mod to  behave in a certain behavior).
  • It can be disabled easily via Settings.
  • It’s open source and any one can develop free Modules or tweaks etc.

Where to download?

You can download the installer of Xposed Framework from the following link of XDA Developers xposed.info/latest.apk.

How to use?

How to install?

i) After downloading the app, open > settings > security > check unknown sources. Then install the app in your phone.
ii) Open the app, go to the “Framework” section  (dismiss the warning) and click on “Install/Update”.
iii) Reboot your device, if it doesn’t reboots automatically after the process.
iv) Done.
v) You can verify this by starting the Xposed Installer again and making sure that the numbers in the “Framework” section are green.

How to  install Modules or Tweaks for your device?

  1. Download any *.apk file (e.g. via the built-in repository browser) and install it.
  2. Launch the Xposed Installer and go to the “Modules” section (you will also get there if you click on the notification warning you that the module is not enabled yet)
  3. Enable the module by checking the check box.
  4. Reboot your device.
  5. Done!
  6. {Optional Step} You can also install the framework and enable/disable multiple modules at once and reboot afterwards.

You can ask your queries or give us feedback through the comments.

Taig JailBreak Tool (iOS 8 to 8.2 Beta 2 except 8.1.3)

Hi Guys,

In an earlier post, we discussed about jailbreaking iOS 7 via Pangu JailBreak Tool. Today, we are gonna discuss about the Taig JailBreak Tool, which is used to jailbreak devices running with Apple’s iOS. Generally it is used to jailbreak iOS 8.x. You can check your iOS version in Settings > General > About > Version. We will discuss every aspect of Taig jailbreak in brief. So, let us start.

What is Taig JailBreak Tool?

A tool named Taig have been released by the Taig Team which allows for an untethered jailbreak on devices, running iOS 8.0.x to iOS 8.2 Beta 2. Note it doesn’t jailbreak iOS 8.1.3.

Who are the Taig Team?

Team Taig first launched their jailbreak tool on 29 November 2014 which could jailbreak iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.1.2. Not much is known about this group of Jailbreakers, except that they are Chinese Developers or Hackers. We can say that confidently because both their tool and site as well are in Chinese language 😉 . In 2015, they updated and revised their existing jailbreak techniques to further develop the tool to make it able to jailbreak iOS 8.2 Beta 2.

How to get it?

To use the Taig JailBreak Tool to root your iOS device, first you need to install Taig, which is easily available to download via the following link of Google Drive. Download it in your Windows PC. Here’s the link –
Taig JailBreak v1.2.1 for iOS 8.0 to iOS 8.1.2 – drive.google.com/TaiGJBreak_1.2.10.zip

Taig JailBreak Tool for iOS 8.2 Beta 2 – drive.google.com/TaiGJBreak_EN_1.300.zip

How to use it?

Preparation –

i) After downloading the zipped file, unzip it in your PC.
ii) Install iTunes, if not installed already via link 32 bit OR 64 bit.
iii) Backup your device using iTunes (or iCloud) before using Taig. If something breaks, you’ll always be able to recover your data. (Personally I prefer to reset my iPhone and not making a full backup, that’s too slow. iCloud is still a better option regarding speed).
iv) Those who use backup passwords in iTunes must disable them for now. After doing so, iTunes makes a brand new backup. Please wait for that backup to complete before proceeding! Feel free to re-enable your backup password after jailbreaking.
v) Disable the lock pass-code of your iOS device before using PanGu via Settings > General > Pass-code Lock.
vi) Disable Find my iPhone and enable AirPlane Mode via Settings.

JailBreaking –

vii) Launch iTunes, plug-in your device, once iTunes identifies your device, Launch Taig and kill iTunes via Windows Task Manager.
viii) Keep the Cydia option checked. Make sure to uncheck the second option of 3K assistant or something like that.
ix) Click the green button of “Start” in the bottom part of Taig window. Just sit back and see its progress.
x) Avoid using your device or iTunes related tasks until the process is complete. You can just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs.
xi) {Optional step} If the process gets stuck somewhere, it’s safe to restart the program, reboot the device (by holding the Power and Home button simultaneously until the Apple Logo appears), and restart the process.
xii) Once the process is done, you will find the “Cydia” app on your home screen which is your AppStore for JailBroken devices.
xiii) You can also set a pass code and enable Find my iPhone. Do disable the Airplane mode.
xiv) Now enjoy your jailbroken device.
